Autobiographical Masks © 2004

(two sessions, 4 hours each)

Instructor: Reverend Felicitas, Multi-Disciplinary Artist Educator

As the lotus grows out of dark, dank, decaying places, so we, too, pass through our Light and Shadow times, gaining strength, wisdom and beauty which enable us to ascend to our Highest Self.  Our Ancestors, The Ancient Ones, kept circular time marking the passage of life by one’s life events, rather than a linear calendar.  This workshop allows participants to explore their inner and outer landscapes vis-à-vis circular time and the autobiographical mask.  Just as we do not exist or develop in isolation, workshop participants work together, developing actual face casting masks on the first day.  Once the masks have dried (the second day), they are ready for further development by each participant.  The outer mask reflects the face presented to the world and the inner mask holds the written language of life events; the composite of the person today: the person behind the face.  A work-in-progress, the masks allow autobiographical additions to be made as each participant‘s life journey continues.  Discussion, exploration, sharing, journaling, introspection, catharsis, discovery and “aha” moments are all facets of this fun, creative and educational workshop.  Anyone with claustrophobia concerns, however mild, is encouraged to dialogue with the instructor before signing up for this workshop.

It is human nature to grieve our losses, whatever they may be. Grieving in isolation may be necessary from time-to-time. However, grieving with others in a safe setting helps us move out of isolation in our healing process and provides an opportunity to experience community, empathy and the support we all need occasionally.  Join us... explore healing in community.
